Map Tracking App

Xekko was asked by a client to create an internal prototype for a map tracking application (app). This app would allow its users to plot delivery routes on an interactive map.

The app works by feeding XML address data into a Microsoft Bing Map, using GeoLocation to find a location by address and then returning the results as pushpins on the Bing Map. These pushpins are interactive - they enable the user to quickly assign (or re-assign) the delivery point to a transport method, either one of the company's own lorries or via a carrier.

Once assigned to a transport method, the app quickly queries the route taken between the depot and waypoints the user has already assigned; the result details accurate data - including distance travelled, working hours and the total delivery costs for the transport.

To test the app, the client held a training game for its sales teams over 2 days - varying levels of activity and transport methods throughout the days. It proved to be a popular success and are now looking into providing the app as a service across the company.

Quick

Using Microsoft Bing Maps API and a custom built UI, deliveries can be quickly assigned to transport methods.

Reliable Data

Using accurate costs from transport methods, the app is able to return accurate and reliable data for the delivery route.

Orderable Routes

Users are able to manipulate and easily manage the route they've created by dragging and dropping the waypoints.
